Globalization (or globalisation) describes an ongoing process by which regional economies, societies, and cultures have become integrated through a globe-spanning network of communication and trade. The term is sometimes used to refer specifically to economic globalization: the integration of national economies into the international economy through trade, foreign direct investment, capital flows, migration, and the spread of technology. However, globalization is usually recognized as being driven by a combination of economic, technological, sociocultural, political, and biological factors. The term can also refer to the transnational circulation of ideas, languages, or popular culture through acculturation.

Is globalization a positive development for the world community?
Q. Do you think that globalization is a positive development for the world community, or a negative one? Why?
Asked by ashley - Mon Oct 12 20:39:22 2009 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments

A. Positive of course. A country's prosperity only increases when it experiences globalization. Look at Hong Kong versus North Korea. The better off countries are, the better off the world community is.

How would globalization impact a small restaurant?
Q. How would globalization have an impact on a small, locally owned restaurant of a small town?
Asked by S - Fri Nov 14 16:21:36 2008 - - 2 Answers - 0 Comments

A. So you mean it's good then Grogan? For a small restaurant a large supply of de-motivated labourers who are prepared to accept minimum wage is a good thing. It cuts the bosses costs. In actual fact globalisatation probably wont have a large effect on a small restaurant in the developed world. It might increase competition because larger companies that grow out of globalisation might be able to compete on price better.

Globalization, or globalisation, is the increasing interdependence, integration and interaction among people and corporations in disparate locations around the world. It is an umbrella term which refers to a complex of economic, trade, social, technological, cultural and political interrelationships.

  • "Globalization" is a horrible term, in the sense that it encompasses all kinds of things; it's used very widely and vaguely.
  • Projects to stop the spread of AIDS have tried to establish protective boundaries ... by requiring HIV tests in order to cross national boundaries. The boundaries of nation-states, however, are increasingly permeable by all kinds of flows. Nothing can bring back the hygienic shields of colonial boundaries. The age of globalization is the age of universal contagion.
  • Simplifying a great deal, one could argue that postmodernist discourses appeal primarily to the winners in the processes of globalization and fundamentalist discourses to the losers.
