A budget (from old French bougette, purse) is generally a list of all planned expenses and revenues. It is a plan for saving and spending. A budget is an important concept in microeconomics, which uses a budget line to illustrate the trade-offs between two or more goods. In other terms, a budget is an organizational plan stated in monetary terms.

In summary, the purpose of budgeting is to:

  1. Provide a forecast of revenues and expenditures i.e. construct a model of how our business might perform financially speaking if certain strategies, events and plans are carried out.
  2. Enable the actual financial operation of the business to be measured against the forecast.

Business start-up budget

The process of calculating the costs of starting a small business begins with a list of all necessary purchases including tangible assets (for example, equipment, inventory) and services (for example, remodeling, insurance), working capital, sources and collateral. The budget should contain a narrative explaining how you decided on the amount of this reserve and a description of the expected financial results of business activities. The assets should be valued with each and every cost. All other expenses are like labour factory overhead all freshmen expenses are also included into business budgeting

How do I set a wedding budget?
Q. I just got engaged and I am eager to start planning! I know I need to set a budget but I have no idea where to even start figuring out what I should spend and where! I also don't have anyone close to me getting married besides a friend who has no budget so I need help!

A. First, figure our your total budget - what you can afford to pay for. The average American wedding is about $20,000. My own wedding budget is $8,000 because that's what my fiance and I could afford to save up. Then go to theknot.com and click their budget calculator. It will calculate roughly how much you should spend in each category (dress, flowers, photographer, etc). Of course, how much you should spend in each area is subjective and depends on what you feel is most important. For example. my fiance and I are scaling back on some things to make more room in the budget for flowers and centre pieces.

How much should I budget to install a BRAC(or similar) Grey Water recirculating system in my house?
Q. More specifically- I want to install a system to catch the grey water from bathroom sinks and showers to recirculate to the toilet. How much should I budget for that type of system?

A. Next to impossible to estimate, but it would be a bundle. Lots of rearrangement of water and waste lines is needed. I admire the idea, though. My city told me I could not even run my clothes washer waste line to the outside, for irrigation. I guess I will not admit to doing it, discharging it into a 32 gallon trash can, and pumping it to the garden.

A healthy budget should have what percentage of diposable income?
Q. We are moving to a different state and our income will only be from one person for a bit. When I get a new job, even if it doesn't pay a lot, we can easily get our disposable income up to 13.75% of what we are bringing in. I heard that a healthy budget should have between 5% and 10%. Is that correct? How healthy is a budget with 13.75% disposable income? Well, we have already accounted for eating out etc... so the 13.75% is extra after our "fun expenses". I guess a better way to describe it is money left over for savings. for our future and wedding and vacations. Is it a good amount or is it skimpy?

A. The first question to answer is if your "budget" accounts for savings. (a defined monthly amount) People do not think of this...but your budget should consider savings just like it considers bills and other expenses. So if after budgeting for savings and your disposable income is still 13.75%...you are looking pretty good. If your budget doesn't consider savings then make sure to 1) start and 2) stay above 7-8 percent to be safe:) Good Luck! ;)
