societyDefinition from Wiktionary, the free dictionary Jump to: navigation, search Wikipedia has articles on: SocietyFrom Wiktionary under the GNU Free Documentation License. A society or a human society is a group of people related to each other through persistent relations such as social status, roles and social networks. Human societies are characterized by patterns of relationships between individuals sharing a distinctive culture and institutions. Without an article, the term refers either to the entirety of humanity or a contextually specific subset of people. Used in the sense of an association, a society is a body of individuals outlined by the bounds of functional interdependence, possibly comprising characteristics such as national or cultural identity, social solidarity, language or hierarchical organization. Canis lupus social ethologyLike other groupings, a society allows its members to achieve needs or wishes they could not fulfill alone; the social fact can be identified, understood or specified within a circumstance that certain resources, objectives, requirements or results, are needed and utilized in an individual manner and for individual ends, although they can't be achieved, gotten or fulfilled in an individual manner as well, but, on the contrary, they can be gotten only in a collective, collaborative manner; namely, team work becomes the valid functional means, to individual ends which an individual would need to have but isn't able to get. More broadly, a society is an economic, social or industrial infrastructure, made up of a varied collection of individuals. Members of a society may be from different ethnic groups. A society may be a particular ethnic group, such as the Saxons; a nation state, such as Bhutan; a broader cultural group, such as a Western society. The word society may also refer to an organized voluntary association of people for religious, benevolent, cultural, scientific, political, patriotic, or other purposes. A "society" may even, though more by means of metaphor, refer to a social organism such as an ant colony or any cooperative aggregate such as for example in some formulations of artificial intelligence. What do you think the role of human service workers will be in the future? Asked by Nezbit - Tue Apr 29 20:35:41 2008 - - 1 Answers - 0 Comments A. Today, the individual is more important than ever. 10 years is a very short time, so I can't cite a documented shift during that time. But people are not marginalized or left out because of individual differences as much as they used to be. For example, people with disabilities are being acknowledged and accommodated for their individual needs these days. 50 years ago, they would lump all children with disabilities (whether mental or physical) in the same classroom and give them a second-rate education. I think that society's responsibility has changed in that we care less about the good of the community. People no longer sacrifice themselves, or at least they're not quiet anymore if they're being ignored. Instead, we care about if our… [cont.] Answered by tritonetelephone - Tue Apr 29 20:54:24 2008 Why does society allow females to get away with stuff? Q. It seems as though females are the rulers of this world, according to society. If they divorce a man, they automatically get half of his possessions (without question). If something happens to a woman, society automatically takes her word over man whether she's lying or not (without question). Males get so weak over females where it comes to the point that they'll allow the female to boss them around like they're some kind of dog or something and it's sickening. I understand that males have their issues too, but it seems as though they're the ones getting punished for most of the actions whether they did it or not. Why does society allow this? Asked by Mike - Sat Aug 21 03:40:48 2010 - - 7 Answers - 0 Comments A. In the first place, women do NOT automatically get half of the husband's possessions; it varies from state to state; and depends on the particular circumstances. But, fair question otherwise. In response, I can only quote the great author James Jones from his masterpiece, "From Here to Eternity": "Women were dealt all the cards...between their legs" Answered by pilota300b4 - Sat Aug 21 03:46:36 2010 How much do you identify yourself with society in which you live ?
